The Las Vegas Strip is officially getting a major romantic upgrade! Clark County commissioners have unanimously approved plans for a brand-new 29-story, 752-room heart-shaped hotel and casino resort on the south end of the Strip, located directly across from Mandalay Bay.
Developed by Eli Applebaum through Kulik River Capital on nearly 12 acres, this ambitious mega-resort features a striking glass facade with a giant heart-shaped opening center and an exterior wrapped in massive LED screens, complete with a giant illuminated heart marquee to light up the night skyline. What makes this project even more unique is its plan to redevelop one of the Strip’s most notorious eyesores: the abandoned SkyVue observation wheel site.
For over a decade, two bare concrete support columns—affectionately known by locals as the "pillars of sadness" or "matchsticks"—have sat vacant after the original $100 million Ferris wheel project stalled out due to financial issues. Rather than knocking down these massive towers, the developers plan to reinforce them and build an incredible sky-high restaurant floating roughly 265 feet in the air right on top of the concrete pillars!
Beyond the iconic LED heart and suspended restaurant, the resort will boast a full casino floor, retail spaces, diverse dining options, an expansive pool deck, over 42,000 square feet of convention space, a six-story parking garage, and a covered pedestrian plaza reminiscent of the famous Fremont Street Experience canopy.
This massive project aims to breathe fresh energy into the southern entrance of the Strip while turning an abandoned lot into Vegas's next big themed attraction.
